The Bar-Levav Family Foundation Endowed Scholarship Fund is available for full time first year medical students. Applicants must write a short essay on their character and scholastic achievements. Recipients will be selected by the School of Medicine \'s Dean\' Scholarship Committee. Prior recipients may retain the award each year provided they remain in the top half of their class.

Lewis R. Barak M.D. Memorial Scholarship Fund will be awarded to full time medical school students or those accepted for study at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Recipients will be selected on the basis of scholastic achievement, leadership qualities and financial need. The recipient will be selected by the School of Medicine \'s financial aid office.

Alex Barba Endowment Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to full-time students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

C.C. Barnes Scholarship is a paid one-year membership in the National Council for Social Studies for meritorious social studies education students in the College of Education.

The I. Robin Barraco, Ph.D. Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund in the Neurosciences at the School of Medicine will be awarded to a rising Year III or Year IV. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic merit and financial need. Preference will be given to minority students. Recipients will be selected by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

These scholarships are designed to attract non-Michigan residents with high academic credentials to the Law School. Recipients of this scholarship are awarded a grant to help defray non-resident tuition costs.

Recipient must provide a 500-word essay on their interest in the area of Social Work with Families, Children, and Youth. They must have a minimum GPA of 3.2.

The David W. Barron M.D. and William H. Barron M.D. Endowed Father and Son Memorial Scholarship for Year I or Year III medical students. Preference will given to medical students whose father graduated from Wayne State University school of Medicine. The Dean\'s Scholarship Committee will select the recipient of the award based on scholastic achievement, leadership qualities and volunteer service.

George N. Bashara Jr. Endowed Scholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, to Wayne State students. Students accepted for study at WSU may apply. Recipient selection is based on scholastic achievement, qualities of leadership and financial need.

Thomas Batchelor, M.D. Endowed Scholarship Fund is available for any medical school student. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic achievement and demonstrated financial need.

Beverly N. Bay Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, to undergraduate and graduate students with preference given to female applicants. Recipient selection is based on scholastic achievement, desirable qualities of character and leadership, and financial need, including lack of parental or family financial assistance.

Open to any high school senior recipient of a Scholastic Art Award sponsored by the Scholastic Art Association. $1500 per academic year. Renewable each year for a total of four years of baccalaureate study. You must submit slides and application for consideration for this scholarship.

Harriet Berg Endowed Choreography Award of varying amounts ($250-$500), dependent upon funds available, is limited to dance majors who are enrolled full-time. The dance faculty selects recipients based on outstanding choreographic creativity and promise of excellence in choreography, and a demonstrated commitment to dance at WSU. Financial need may be considered. Recipients must have completed at least 12 credits at WSU. The award is to be used for choreography production and/or other choreographic related expenses, such as costumes, music, set design, properties, video or other technology production needs. Applicants must submit a letter of application, not to exceed one page, explaining why they should receive the award. The application deadline is in early December for a winter semester award.

The Harriet Berg Endowed Choreography Award recognizes outstanding achievement in student choreography, and provides funding for costs directly related to dance production (costumes, score, props, set design). Award: $250-$500

Miriam H. Berger Endowed Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to full- of part-time undergraduate or graduate students. A minimum GPA and financial need are not criteria.

Gerald J. Bernath M.D. Endowed Multi-Year Scholarship will be awarded to first year full time Wayne State University School of Medicine students based on their scholastic achievement, volunteer activities and leadership qualities. The scholarship is renewable provided the student remains in the top half of their class.

Beta Sigma Phi Endowed Scholarship of $1000 for tuition, books, and other educational expenses is limited to full or part-time graduate or undergraduate students majoring in elementary or secondary education. Applicants need not demonstrate financial need.

Jane Betsey Welling Endowed Memorial Scholarship of $500 is limited to full-time undergraduate students who have successfully completed at least one semester of study in the art education program. Applicants must show evidence of outstanding performance in art education coursework, excellent potential as an art teacher, and evidence of financial need. This award must be applied toward tuition.

Anne V. and John G. Bielawski, M.D. Endowed Student Scholarship is available to all Wayne State University School of Medicine students who are in good standing and who demonstrate financial need. Award may be used for tuition and other educational expenses. Recipients must re-apply and be re-evaluated in order to retain scholarship.

Richard J. Bilaitis Award for Creative Excellence of approximately $500 is limited to juniors, seniors, and graduate students in the Departments of Art & Art History, Dance, Music or Theatre. Recipients must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA. Applicants must be recommended and sponsored by a member of the CFPCA faculty. Nominations must be submitted by March 15. Eva Marie and William S. Billups Endowed Scholarship of $500 for tuition is limited to full-time African-American undergraduate students or full- or part-time masters level students in the field of education. Applicant criteria include educational or community service, demonstrated potential for leadership, and evidence of financial need.

The Black Medical Association of Wayne State University Endowed Grant Fund is available to any Year I, II and III medical school students. A personal statement describing their financial need or emergency situation is required. Preference is given to applicants of African-American descent.

The Louis C. and Edith Blumberg Endowed Memorial Multi-Year Scholarship Fund will be awarded to full time first year Wayne State University School of Medicine students that reside in Greater Metropolitan Detroit. Recipient selection is based on scholastic achievement, financial need and leadership qualities.

Warren E. Bow Scholarship Endowment Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to full-time freshman students who graduated from a Detroit high school and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. The scholarship may be renewed.

Freeman Bradley and Pearl Grissom-Bradley General EndowedScholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to full- or part-time undergraduates who are graduating or have graduated from a Detroit High School with the minimum GPA required for admission to Wayne State University. Recipients must remain in good academic standing with a minimum 2.5 GPA to retain this scholarship. This award must be applied toward tuition and books.

Robert C. Branton Endowed Memorial General Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to entering freshmen graduates of Martin Luther King (MLK) High School. Recipient selection is based on financial need, scholastic achievement, and desirable qualities of character and leadership. If funds are available after all qualified MLK graduate applicants are awarded, entering freshmen graduates of Cass Technical High School and/or Cooley High School will be considered. Recipients who continue to meet the eligibility criteria and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA may receive the award for up to four consecutive years.

Brazeal Dennard Youth Chorale Scholarship is awarded to outstanding music students from the Detroit metropolitan area with a background in choral music. This scholarship is awarded in support of the Brazeal Dennard Youth Chorale and the metropolitan community.

Manuscript competition. Students submit a 7-10 page paper on social work values and practice to be judged by a panel of faculty & students. One award granted annually during the Winter term. Deadline early February.

Bob Brennan Endowed Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to full-time students who meet all NCAA and WSU athletic, financial aid, and academic requirements. Recipients must demonstrate exceptional abilities in the sport of football.

William R. and Mary-Jean Bristol Endowed Scholarship will be awarded to any full time Wayne State University School of Medicine student who demonstrates financial need. The scholarship is renewable provided student continues to meet all criteria. Recipients must re-apply.

Noah Brown Jr. Endowed Scholarship Fund provides grants for emergency situations and scholarships of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to students completing their junior year who demonstrate commitment to academic excellence and community service. This fund was established to recognize and acknowledge the exemplary contributions Dr. Brown, the first African-American Vice President for Student Affairs at Wayne State University.

Terrance L. Brown Endowed Memorial Scholarship of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, is limited to undergraduate students at the junior or senior level who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. Recipient selection is based on participation in community service and extracurricular activities, and a 500-word essay about his/her life and how higher education makes a difference. Mr. Brown’s wife and/or her designee may review the essays and make recommendations to the selection committee. Preference is given to African-American applicants.

This fund, known as the Theodore Buckwick Endowed Scholarship, awarded by the School of Business Administration, is established to recognize scholarship achievement, to encourage continued progress, and to provide assistance to students in financing their education at Wayne State University.

Samuel and Mollie Burtman Endowment Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to full-time students who maintain a 3.0 GPA minimum and demonstrate financial need.

Wayne County Commissioner Burton Leland Annual Scholarship is for full-time or part-time undergraduate students pursuing a degree in any area of study, and reside in Wayne County District 7. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. This award must be applied toward tuition and other educational expenses. Wayne County Commissioner Burton Leland Annual Scholarship provides awards of $1,000 to as many applicants that qualify, up to a total of 25 awards, for every year that Burton Leland holds office as county commissioner. Recipient selection will be made based on university policies and procedures. Recipients of this award must reapply and be reevaluated in order to receive a renewal of this award.

DeWitt T. Burton, M.D. Memorial Endowed Scholarship is available to all Wayne State University School of Medicine students. Scholarship is renewable provided all required criteria is met. Must re-apply annually. Preference will be given to applicants of African American descent.

Evelyn Kanat Burton and Lester Sidney Burton Endowed Scholarship Fund provides awards of varying amounts, dependent upon funds available, limited to undergraduate students entering Wayne State University through the Division of Community Education (DCE). The DCE Scholarship Committee selects recipients based upon leadership skills and the potential to successfully complete the program, and financial need.

Preference to African-American females. Based on financial need and scholastic achievement.
